Biography
Atim Otii is a native of Denver, Colorado, and has recently returned to open her practice in immigration law. Atim was awarded her B.A. at San Diego State University in 2002, and her J.D. at Washburn University, School of Law in Topeka, Kansas in 2007.
Atim was admitted to the Colorado Bar in 2007 and has determined to establish her Denver practice in the area of immigration law. She specializes in removal/deportation proceedings and is gaining experience in a variety of other immigration matters.
Atim's initiative in starting her own practice grows from her long experience in leadership roles. While at San Diego State University, Atim was the captain of the Aztec Women’s Basketball team for three years. Later she worked at the Mayor’s Office of Workforce Development as a youth case manager in Denver; as an active social justice organizer and volunteer with the Colorado Progressive Coalition, assisting refugees from Africa through St. Ignatius Loyola Church, as an intern with the Public Defender’s Office, as a judicial extern in the United States District Court, District of Colorado, as a tutor for foster care children in Topeka, as a coach for youth sports through the Denver Parks and Recreation Community Center, and as a legal volunteer in Gulfport, Mississippi following Hurricane Katrina.
Atim is the product of a refugee family from Uganda and has maintained ties to Uganda, having spent a summer attending middle school in 1995, and returning as a newly licensed attorney in 2008 to advocate for human rights as a member of the Research Division at the Foundation for Human Rights Initiative in Kampala.
Atim remains active in athletics and the community, as she serves as the lead facilitator for a girls basketball camp in Gulu, Uganda, bridging the camp between Americans and Africans through sports. In addition, Atim likes the outdoors, running in charity races, and mentoring youth.
